"Notice that all of the positive, glowing reviews are written by people who gave this as a gift, and who didn't actually use this. Of course if you give it your recipient is going to "love" it. I got this because someone who lives in my building was giving it away before she moved. She said it was a gift to her some months ago, and she never had time to plant, so she never opened the box. It was completely brand new, never opened, and packed in the Red Envelope Box. Imagine that!
I've seen this before on Red Envelope, and thought about it, but never purchased. Even thought about getting this for my daughter in law, figuring it could be fun. So I decided to give it try myself. I picked out the seeds that required full sun - there were 6 varieties that required full sun, and I planted them in their respective pots, following the directions. After 4 weeks, the seeds germinated in only 3 of the pots. The other 3 are complete duds. So, we'll see - the little sprouts are tiny - I'll see how they look when they get big. This was a disappointment. I'll pitch the contents of the other 3 containers. Not sure what I'll do about the other 6 that I haven't planted. I don't really care to try this again, considering how many were duds. The little ceramic pots are very cute. But very tiny - and in the directions, it says to repot to a 4" and then to a 6" as the plant grows to prevent it from getting root bound. I am not quite sure how useful these little pots would be. I may give away the other 6 packets of seeds and maybe all of the little pots once the 3 that are sprouting are replanted to a larger pot.
In the meantime -- unless you are 100% darn sure that your gift recipients wants to take so much time waiting for these to germinate, then grow, then report them, might not be the best gift to give them. Especially if they get duds like the ones in my box."
