"I loved this necklace in silver, which I bought a few years ago after the birth of my second child, until a few things happened, which other reviewers have mentioned. The metal scratches easily because they sit on top of each other and rub against each other. Also, the birthstones fade until they are the same nondescript color. And now, with the birth of my 3rd child, I find that they are only selling "May" but my child was born in July. So, now I have to go buy an entirely different necklace because I decided to have another child. Maybe they stopped making these because of the problems people have had with them. It did look very nice from far away, though."

"My husband gave this to me in silver as a gift a few years ago, and I love it! It was the perfect complement to anything I wore, dressy or casual. I wore it often and received many compliments on it. However, a few months ago, the stone fell out! I stopped wearing it for a while, and it has tarnished a bit, but it will polish up again after wearing it. To be honest, I haven't tried having the stone put back in yet... if I still have it, it's so small! But it is still a pretty piece. I have quite a few pieces of jewelry from Red Envelope and it's generally good quality. I am disappointed that the quality of this necklace isn't up to snuff..."

"I purchased this for myself in silver, with 2 charms. After less than a month one lost it's stone. They sent me a new one, and about a month later the second one lost it's stone. That time they sent me a whole new necklace, with out requesting the other be returned. Unfortunately, only one charm has a stone now, but it is so unique I still wear it all the time. Even without the stone, I really like this and am considering getting in gold."

"This is the perfect necklace in silver! I have had to polish my first only one time in 2 years, and my second one I have not yet had to polish and have had it for 5 months now. And, I wear it constantly. I never take it off, not to shower or sleep! It is as permanent as my wedding rings. And with all that wear it holds up perfectly. I have it on my own sterling chain so I can not comment about the chain. But the charms are wonderful. I can't wait to keep adding charms to it as our family grows."

"I've only had the gold chain w/ birthstone pendant for a week, but so far, so good! I've gotten a lot of compliments on it already. The weight of the pendant is nice and it's a bonus that the chain has 3 length options. The only negative is that the closure on the chain is a little tough to open."

"I received this necklace as a gift from my aunt and grandmother just after my son was born (silver with citrine). I have worn this necklace every day since and I just LOVE it! The only thing that made me give it four stars was the chain - I felt that the chain was pretty thin and I worried about my son grabbing and ripping it right off (not to mention, when my son did get a hold of it, it nearly rubbed my neck raw - ouch!), but I switched it easily with a more comfortable/sturdier chain and have had no problems. I love wearing it because it's perfectly understated with tshirt, but I can wear it with a dress or business outfit and it still looks in place. A great purchase!"

"I waited so expectantly for this purchase to arrive. I have always been pleased with my purchases from red envelope. So, even though I saw that this item had bad reviews, I purchased it anyway. The pendants are really, really thin. They seem flimsy and very poor quality. The gem stone is a speck that feels more like plastic. The chain came as a tangled mess, so I know that it was not worth ordering. And to top it all off, it looks like the engraving machine scratched the pendant while engraving the initial into it. So, now I will have to talk to customer service about getting a new one. Like I said, I have always been pleased with Red Envelope, so I am very disappointed."

"The product arrived in beautiful condition. No complaints. But within 1wk of wearing this (there were 4 pendants on this chain) the gold plating began to wear off the pendants. Knowing that gemstones come in an array of colors within their type, one would still expect that someone is doing quality control when selecting the stones. Aquamarine, when represented as being "aquamarine", should not be clear! It took me a moment to determine the stone was even there. Disappointed to say the least."

"I ordered a necklace for my mom's 50th birthday, and it was a nightmare using Red Envelope. They sent an order 4 days prior to her birthday and it was incorrect. The pendants came with the correct engravings, however there were empty holes where the birthstones should have been. Then when the necklace actually did come (the day before her birthday which delayed my trip to her home), one pendant had engravings on both sides, while the other had an engraving on only one side. The silver looked very tarnished and dirty. Yes, the idea of a necklace with these great pendants and birthstones is indeed wonderful, however the product that I actually received was not so wonderful."

"My husband purchased this necklace for me (per my request) for Mother's Day shortly after our second baby was born. I read the reviews and was a little hesitant due to some of the negative comments, but we went ahead and ordered it. The necklace tarnished almost immediately along with several scratches from the two coins rubbing against each other. One of the birthstones just fell out as well! And it's WAY too small for me to ever find! The engraved initials were also a dissapointment. You can barely see them! I also have to wear the coins on another chain I have because I got a knot in it that I cannot undo. Disspointment all around! Don't waste your money! First time purchasing from Red Envelope and definitely the LAST!"

"My husband gave this to me after the birth of my second son and it was beautiful with both of my son's having a pendant. However, within two weeks, the gold wore off as they bang together. I called the company and they said it could be a bad batch of pendants so they sent me a new one. The exact same thing happened. I agree with previous reviewers that Red Envelope needs to stop selling the gold version until they get a better product that lasts longer. If you want this product, go for the silver ones!!!!"

"I loved this when I saw it, ordered with two charms for my two kids. The necklace is beautiful, I love it! The only recommendation I would have for the company is to have different monogram styles for the customer to choose from. The two letters I have are S and J, and the script kind of makes them look almost the same. I would have rated excellent except one charm lost the birthstone the second time I wore it. I called the customer service number the next day and they immediately set up a replacement to be mailed to me, with a pre-paid return label for the defectve one. Excellent customer service."

"Over all I really like the necklace, I ordered a total of 5, one for me and each of my bridesmaids. The blue topaz is BARELY blue, the ruby is dark pink and the garnet is a little orangish, and my necklace was missing the stone! I am about to contact RE about a replacement for mine, and only hope it comes soon! They are delivered in cute little red boxes, with a ribbon tie, and the box mine was in came untied and the pendant was hanging out of the box. When they arrived, my wife was very pleased - the pendants are nice looking and the personalization is a nice touch. Unfortunately, within a few days, the pendants started rubbing against each other, wearing off the gold. Customer Service was great - allowed us to return without any questions, saying this was a known problem. We got our money back but Red Envelope probably shouldn't sell this as a multiple, given the known problems with the pendants wearing down."

"I received the necklace and was thrilled at how quickly it came. However, I ordered 2 pendants to be worn together and unfortunately, when you wear them together, they overlap somewhat and scratch each other. So my silver circles are already all scratched. IN addition, I had them personalized with and "A" and "T". The "T" is in script cursive that is not very legible. It looks like a "J". I was disappointed with those issues."

"My brother and I purchased this for our mom for mother's day. We purchased two pendants that she wears together and after a month of the two of them rubbing together (from normal wear!), the gold has rubbed off in spots. Very poor quality and I am really disappointed. If we weren't supposed to wear the two together, then they should not show them worn like that in the picture."

"I was delighted when my husband a baby girl gave me this necklace for mother's day this year! I had been coveting it online for some time. The engraving is lovely and the August peridot stone is clearly green. I remove it every night and do not allow it to get wet. I would like to get another pendant when i have another child (hopefully!), but have read some reviews that say two pendants cause scratching and i don't want that to happen. Not sure if i will do that now. It is lovely and i adore it!"

"My husband purchased this gift as my Mother's Day gift. I was so happy on the first day as it was nice and shiny and it displayed my children's birthstone and initials. However, within the first week the silver began to look scratched and dull. I take it off every night and put it in the red box it came in. I am so disappointed. The small little pink crystal is now missing. Mind you I do not wear it unless I am at work which is a sit down type of job. I would not recommend this item to anyone."

However, almost immediately after beginning to wear it, the pendants became scratched. I (like another reviewer) have tried to buff and polish it with a specific cloth for that purpose without success. The script letters are also difficult to read. This is the first gift I have received from Red Envelope that I am disappointed with. I still wear it as you can't see the scratches unless you are up close, but I hope to replace it with ones of better quality in the near future."

"The product was wrapped in 3 separate boxes. I opened each box just to make sure that the initials on the charms were correct. I'm glad I did. I had assumed that the main/large box would contain the necklace and one charm - it didn't. It contained just one charm. One of the 2 smaller boxes actually contained the necklace and a charm. I ended up putting all 3 charms on the necklace and rewrapping them in the large box. I'm glad I didnt send the 3 boxes to my mom because she would have opened the large box first and found only a charm. She would have had to open 1 maybe both other boxes before she got to the necklace itself. I would recommend rethinking the packaging for this product."

It arrived on time and the birthstones and monogramming were accurate however, I had to send 2/3 pendants back because they were scratched and damaged. The customer service rep was great and he processed two replacements to be sent, which I received in a timely fashion, but again, those weren't much better. I think having more than one pendant on this necklace is probably not the best idea because they bang into one another and I also think Red Envelope could have done a better job packaging it to prevent the pendants from touching one another during shipment. Either way, my mom loved it but I was disappointed."
