"As many of the other reviewers have written, the coloring is too light on the writing that is inserted...i.e. name, date, and location. It appears that the main design and writing is done prior to the writing that the customer can insert, and the result is two different shades of etching/burning. I even sent a note to red envelope at the time of purchase indicating that I wanted darker writing. I guess even after all of the reviews they cannot manufacture this product with consistent coloring. Also, the wood is just a piece of oak with a metal band around it, so it looks somewhat unfinished. I feel like I could add a stain or something to the wood to make it look more authentic, but don't want to ruin it. Overall, it is a great concept, however the end product is not what I was expecting."

I received the product and there was a defect in the wood. It happened to be right on our name and therefore it bothered me. After I gave the gift to my husband we decided to call and see if there was anything the company could do to fix it. Customer service was helpful and offered to send us a new one. So, we eagerly waited for the new sign. When that one came we couldn't have been more disappointed. The engraving was so light and it cheapened the appearance. We sent back the second one because at least the first was legible. The item is a good purchase however we're not happy with the craftsmanship. We won't be ordering engraved products from Red Envelope again."

"I totaly love the wine cellar sign. Bought it for my husband for our Anniversary. He has a Man Cave with a custom built bar w/ wine frig and this fits in perfect. I just wish the coloring of the lettering was consistant. It's much lighter on the top and darker on the bottom. It faded right in the middle. (still cool looking) Came ready to hang although it does hang a little crooked. Not a hard fix. I would trully recommend it to a friend, which by the way came over, saw it and said she already purchased it for another friends wedding."

It is especially disappointing because it has been a frequent criticism in the reviews so one would have thought that the manufacturer would have taken steps to correct this. All of the personalized engraving was too hard to see when we hung it on the wall. I minwaxed the wood, which made it look okay. I then had to manually darken the engraved letters. "BEWARE---If you are putting it anywhere that is not within eye level you can't read it. There are several letters of the one I recieved that do not have any brown on them so you can't see them unless your really close to see the etching in the wood. I'm personally disappointed....in order for me to be happy I will have to go over all the lettering with something. At this point not sure if I will send it back. I am not sure how to fix the lettering yet or if I can. Not worth the money."

The 2012 is in the middle with 20 on one side and 12 on the other. That was okay, but the 20 on the left side is hardly visible. The 12 on the right side is perfect. "My wife and I received a "Wine Cellar Sign" from some good friends for Christmas. We both like the gift very much but since it came with no care instructions I looked it up on-line. I am glad I did, as we also felt the engraving was very light and hard to read. I also thought wax or furniture oil might fix the problem, which I learned from another review ... only makes the lettering worse and even harder to read. I can't help but think as the wood ages it will darken and make the lettering disappear over time. I'm sure the manufacturer can come up with a way to solve this problem and I would recommend they do so quickly."

"i ordered this right way when i saw it but was disappointed when it arrived (which was fast!). the etching is SO shallow and faint that it was hard to see. my husband is a woodworker so we tested some clear oil on the back and then put it on the front hoping it would make our family name "pop" a bit more, but no luck, now you can barely see anything on the thing. the laser needs to be DEEPER. other disappointment was that there is a small gap between the iron band and the wood at one place on the circle so you can see between the band and the wood. not impressed and sad because we LOVE the concept. wish i could return for my money back... or would REORDER if the laser/etching could be redone deeper."

"I had hoped that this might be a great present. However... The "etching" or incising of the name and info is VERY SHALLOW in the wood and nearly imperceptible. The words are printed in a light ink or paint and in mine are "worn off" or not the same intensity across the entire name. So the overall effect seems a mistake or a poor copy. Finally, the metal rim is loose and not attached properly. Overall I am very disappointed--but as it is a special order, I suppose I must live with the poor quality...:-("
