gift description:

The best chefs always leave a little room for improvisation in their recipes, but not when it comes to timing. Getting the meat done to perfection is a must. This digital thermometer is as smart as they come and alleviates the need for hovering over the stove or grill. They just enter the cut of meat or program a temperature or level of doneness and the thermometer announces when it's done.
  • digital LCD screen
  • features five languages, eight entrée programs, four doneness levels for beef, and four verbal and audio alert options—"almost ready," "ready," "overcooked" and "out-of-range"
  • customized temperature settings allow for adjustment to specific temperature regardless of meat type
  • main unit measures 2 3/4" x 1" x 5 1/2"
  • sensor unit measures 3 1/2" x 1 1/4" high
  • stainless-steel meat probe measures 7" long

A must for every kitchen - I mean BBQ grill date: December 14, 2011
"Prior to purchasing this for my husband, I had read some negative reviews stating problems with the unit not turning on or having no signal between the two units. I was leery, but reluctantly purchased it for my husband and hoped the Oregon Scientific Brand would live up to its prior reputation.I purchased this as a gift for my husband to use at the bbq so he could cook the perfect steak. It's great for this, but I have absconded with it!!My thermometer, sorry, My husband's thermometer turned on and worked perfectly from the very first time the batteries were installed.I used it to cook the Thanksgiving Turkey, but did not use the pre-programmed turkey setting. Instead, I chose to set it to a specific temperature - 175 deg. - took out the turkey and let it after cook to the desired 180 degrees. Perfection! Our guests got a kick out of the thermometer verbally announcing dinner was "nearly done"! It got them out of their chairs and in the kitchen to help set the table!!!We were impressed and delighted when the turkey came out cooked to perfection - tender and juicy!I used it tonight to cook a casserole. Again, the timer took all the guess work out of heating it through to the center. Love not having to open the oven to check a temperature probe, wonder if the needle is stuck or squint to see what number the needle is really pointing to. Digital (with a probe) is definitely the way to go!My husband may never see his temperature probe again!!!As my title says, it's a must for every kitchen and bbq."

Labeling WRONG says Qven not Oven date: December 04, 2011
"I can't review on the use of the product yet, as it's a Christmas present for my future father-in-law. I can only comment that the main front label says Qven with a Q not Oven with an O. That's embarrassing that I have to give a gift where the product label is spelled incorrectly, it makes the product look cheap before he even tries it."

Happy with my purchase. date: June 23, 2011
"I got this thermometer for my husband on Father's Day. It worked pretty well except that it kept losing the signal when we brought the base into the house while the probe was outside with the grill. But we found a spot in the house that it would get a signal. My kids laughed hysterically when it announced, "Nearly done!" It was easy to use and the chicken came out juicy and delicious."

Great Dad Gift date: June 10, 2011
"This was a Father's Day gift...a bit early due to work conflicts....and he absolutely loves it! He even had the neighbor over to show off his new toy (he was jealous). So far the grill has been going every other night so he can learn all about how it works. Warning,,,this is a techy device...not super easy to figure out but great for a tech lover."

Excellent!!! date: September 14, 2010
"Worked great right out of the box. Just have to remember to turn the base on first then the handset. Use it with the BBQ, oven and indoor grill."

Stopped Working date: September 09, 2010
"My husband loved this, but it stopped working about six weeks in. It now thinks the air temperature is 160 degrees! It's useless to us. I'm really disappointed."

Wireless never connected date: September 07, 2010
"I purchased this for my husband for fathers day. We planned a barbeque at the house, so I was excited for him to open the thermometer and use it. Unfortunately, the wireless device would never connect to the base. Therefore, we were unable to utilize the system. I am returning for a replacement. Hopefully the next review will be better!"

A fun & useful tool My husband really enjoyed the accuracy of the thermometer, steaks were cooked perfectly to medium! Can't wait to try other meat settings
