bad product September 11, 2014
"This is our second purchase of this item and two years ago it worked great! This time however the imprint completely disappeared and we were left with two mostly blank squares of clay!! Horrible product, I do not recommend spending the money for it. Also, the engraved plate was scratched and looked dented. Overall, we were very unhappy and disappointed that we could have this same keepsake for our second child."

DO NOT BUY THIS!! September 02, 2014
"DO NOT BUY THIS IF YOU PLAN TO HAVE MORE THAN ONE CHILD OR GRANDCHILD. I started a series of these with my grandchildren and my daughters started the tradition for their individual families as well. But now we find that the company runs out of various frame colors and does not re-stock, it appears, except on a highly infrequent basis. COLLECTIONS & TRADITION RUINED!"

Nice but way overpriced May 23, 2014
"I really like this item and had one given to me when I had my first child. Now that I just had two more children I wanted to get these again. I was shocked by the cost given what is included. I mean it's molding clay, colored cardboard and a frame. Maybe it's the frame that makes it so pricey (it's a nice frame). I purchased these anyway because I wanted a matching set for all three children. I said I'd recommend this to a friend but I'd probably tell them to see if they could find something cheaper first."

Disappointing May 20, 2014
"I think the clay material worked better in the past. When we used this kit 5 and 8 years ago, it worked great and the prints turned out really nice. But the clay material they include with it now is very poor. It puffs up a lot so that even if you press really hard, your print loses most of its detail. It's also really hard to get the clay smooth - it ends up wrinkled, unlike the previous versions. The frame and colored backgrounds are nice, however."

Beautiful Frame, Difficult Clay May 14, 2014
"I purchased two of the natural finish kits for my mother and mother in law's mothers day presents. The frame itself is beautiful and very nice quality. The clay seemed easy enough to work with, I followed the instructions exactly as they were written. Unfortunately the hand and foot imprint were gone when I checked them the next morning. I ended up using a touch free ink kit instead that came with my son's baby book. My mother and mother in law were very happy with the gift, I just wished I could've used the clay imprint instead."

Great gift idea May 09, 2014
"We purchased this for a friend and got one for ourselves also. It turned out cute but not that great. It was very hard to get his imprints! We finally got them while our son was sleeping but make sure they are really deep imprints. Ours weren't deep enough and the dough rises a bit so they are really hard to see! Overall, we like the frame as a keepsake."

great keepsake and gift May 07, 2014
"The product looks great once finished. The mold was not too difficult and luckily when the baby messes up each of your attempts to get an imprint, you can keep trying thanks to the clay. I really liked how the kit came with four color options for the background...pleasant surprise. Definite great purchase for parents and grandparents."

Wanted to love it April 16, 2014
"I have always had this in mind should I have a baby and ordered it once I did, despite what seemed like a high price. The frame itself is as expected, but as other reviewers had said, I found the handprint material to be disappointing. The prints faded or lifted as the material dried and overall, the effect was not what I had hoped for. I had another clay based frame kit given to me as a gift and I am much happier with its outcome, despite the cheaper frame it came with. Sadly, I would not recommend this product. I wish I could."

Frame is Awesome, Clay not so much April 13, 2014
"I bought this for our first child who was born last April 2013...I followed the instructions as directed but the clay would not keep the imprint of our daughters newborn hand or foot print. I ended up going to a lady who makes custom clay imprints and had her make some. The frame is really nice and with my own take on the foot/handprints it turned out very nice. I will be ordering this again for our second child due shortly however, I will not even bother with the clay that is included and will use our the custom hand/foot prints I used for our first child. I am disappointed because I wasn't able to make a keepsake of my daughters newborn hand or foot...she was three months old before I found an alternate option."

Clay is worthless February 09, 2014
"The only reason I give the 2 stars is because the frame and mattes are nice and all, but but the clay is absolute garbage. The first one I kneaded like it said and the more I kneaded the rougher it got. I could not get a smooth consistency no matter how hard I tried. And when I finally settled with something less than ideal to try for the print, there was no way I could get anything resembling a hand print. I would have to break my newborn sons bones to push hard enough to get a print, and even then I probably wouldn't get one. I bought this as a gift for my wife before our son was born, and now we're both just upset. She'd probably be more upset if I told her the outrageous price I paid for this lousy product! Do yourself a favor and get an old fashioned stamp kit if you want your baby's prints. That's what we'll be doing now."

So Disappointed! February 03, 2014
"Two years ago I received this item as a gift to commemorate our first grandchild. It was really pretty and the clay worked very well. I bought another in January 2014 for our second grandchild and the clay was very different. It was very soft and easy to knead as the directions stated to do, but there was no way to keep an impression in it. I would have had to hurt my grandson in order to get a hand or foot print deep enough to stay put. I'm just so disappointed! I will be contacting Red Envelope for either a refund or some replacement clay, but who's to say the 2nd batch will be any better?"

So Disappointed February 02, 2014
"I purchased this kit three years ago when my first grandchild was born. My son and daughter-in-law loved it, and it makes a wonderful memory for years to come. The frame and clay prints look lovely displayed in their home. Since they had a new baby in October, I wanted to purchase the same gift for them for Christmas, so they would have one to display and keep for each of their children. The new frame was just as nice as before, but the clay problem has NOT been fixed, and that fact completely ruined my Christmas surprise for them. PLEASE keep this product in the Red Envelope line as it is so unique and beautiful when the clay works the way that it should. As I did, previous customers want to keep buying this kit for many years to come. However, assure your clay manufacturer that they need to revert to the clay that you had a few years ago. The clay is definitely different now and it does NOT work. If the impressions do not last, the gift is almost useless. I love this gift, and truly hope that Red Envelope can resolve this problem."

Beautiful but . . . December 25, 2013
"I was a little worried about buying this product after reading the reviews regarding the clay. However, it appeared that it had been fixed. I can say without a doubt that as of an Order shipped in December 2013 they clay issue has not been fixed. With a four month old the clay is impossible to leave an impression that does not fade. We had to go the old fashion route and mix flour and salt to make an impression but the reciepents loved the gift. If you are going to buy this buy it for the beautiful frame and plan on making other arrangements for the clay"

Negative reviews are spot on December 25, 2013
"I was really torn on buying this due to all the negative reviews but the review in 12/3 from red envelope stating the clay issue has been resolved allowed me to go ahead and buy it. Clay was a joke. Was hard as a rock when I got it and took more than the recommended 2-3 min to soften it up. Clay would not hold an impression if my life depended on it and it said it had to dry for 48 hrs. No way the impression would still be there. Was extremely disappointed. Customer service ended up refunding my money so it worked out in the end but I wouldn't buy this. Also price is really high for what you get basically."

Other reviews are spot on December 23, 2013
"I really liked the idea of this product but was hesitant after reading review. I noticed Dec 1st review response by Red Envelope claiming the clay issue had been resolved so I bought it on that statement alone. The clay I got was hard as a rock and not workable. I kneaded it for a long time and still nothing. Did some test prints and it was a joke. The stamps just go away after about 5 min. Which is funny b/c the instructuions say you have to let the print sit and dry for 48 hrs. No way that would still be there. So i'm scrambing to find a replacement solution for the clay less than 48 hrs before Christmas."

Mixed feelings about this purchase November 30, 2013
"I purchased this item last year and had great results. No problems with the impression materials and putting the frame together was a breeze. It made a beautiful and precious gift for the parents of the children I'm a Nanny for. I purchased another kit to put together for the new addition to the family this year. I received impression material you couldn't roll out to a smooth consistency, and when I would take the impression (no matter how deep I could get it) the impression didn't stay...it slowly faded (almost like a marshmallow when you squeeze it). It wasn't pleasant to repeatedly having to retry several times for this little one, either! I've now had to go on line to locate more impression material to try and get the imprints to make this Christmas gift comparable to last years. So I've had to spend more money with the hope of making this beautiful frame work. Had I received the same impression material I had last year my review would have been a much more positive one."

Clay is Useless October 03, 2013
"As other reviewers mentioned, I, too, received one of these as a gift for my first baby a few years ago. That set was wonderful, so I bought one several months ago for our second child. I was a bit hesitant after reading some reviews of the newer ones. The frame is great, but the clay is completely useless. We made impressions of our daughter's hand and foot. We followed the directions meticulously and the clay was rubbery and bounced back a bit when we made the impressions so they were not very deep. We then left the clay out to dry for 2 WEEKS and it did not fully solidify. We put the impressions in the frame and finally hung the frame up 6 months later and the clay won't stick to the double-sided adhesive provided because the clay is still damp (6 MONTHS LATER!). The impressions keep falling down and still smell rubbery and are so moist that they actually fogged up the glass on the frame. We made some clay at home and made new impressions which we will try to hang up. It is a shame because this set is so nice, but the clay is absolutely useless. I wish they would have stuck to the old formulation because the one we received a few years ago for our son worked great! For this price, the whole kit should work. I would recommend buying your own shadow box type frame and making clay at home."

Problem with clay! September 20, 2013
"I bought this product for my 2 older children and it worked perfectly. Assuming that product would be the same, I didn't read the reviews before ordering it for my third child. I really regret that now. The clay is not the same as the one from 9 and 6 years ago. We followed the directions, and cannot get an impression of our child's hand or foot. To begin with, it is impossible to get it to a smooth consistency - it is full of air holes and nothing like the smooth one from before. In addition, even after numerous attempts to make an impression of my child's hand or foot, the clay rises back up and loses the impression almost instantly. Although the frame and the plaque are perfect, the clay is terrible! Now we are left with an extremely expensive frame, and now handprint or footprint!"

cute - but BAD clay September 19, 2013
"We received this as a gift. It's beyond cute. BUT, we agree with the 9/14 reviewer though - as after we followed the directions down to the tee, pressed the babies foot/hands into the clay, let it dry there was NOTHING BUT A LUMP ... Yep the clay rose and the imprint vanished. So, RED ENVELOPE needs to review this clay and find a new material - as now we have nothing but an empty - and worthless - frame. I did speak with their customer service and they were helpful .... but I would not recommend until they find a solution."

What happened to this clay? September 14, 2013
"We received this as a gift three years ago for our son and it worked perfectly. I didn't check the reviews when I ordered this second one, which I regret now. This clay is not the same as the one from three years ago. Once you knead as the instructions say and flatten with the roller, it is full of air holes nothing like the smooth one from before. Plus, after pressing the heck out of our poor baby's hand, it rises back up and loses the impression almost instantly. The frame and the plaque are perfect, but this clay is pure junk."

Third time purchase September 13, 2013
"We originally received this as a gift when my first child was born 5 years ago. We liked it so much we have purchased them for our other two. The first is a little bit of a different finish glossy versus the now matte finish but they are all beautiful and I love the layout. The clay is not hard to use if you read and follow the instructions. We have had no issue with the first two and don't anticipate any issue with this new one. Bought this one on sale at a great price to boot. Very happy with this item."

Great product. August 24, 2013
"We have bought four of these now over the last 10 years as our children have been born. Only issues we've had are that RedEnvelope has changed the background matte colors (pink & blue) over the years and they recently cut out the honey color frame we bought for the first three. Otherwise it's a great product. Those who say they clay is problematic do not know how to use it. The clay in the one I bought a few months back is the same as the clay in the first one we bought nearly 10 years ago. Just follow the instructions and make the imprints deep enough, and you will have no problem. Don't let others ineptitude sway you from buying this product and using the clay."

Good August 22, 2013
"I received one of these for my son two years ago and had problems with the clay. I recently bought another one for my new daughter and had NO PROBLEMS what-so-ever with it. I think the clay has gotten better--I had no problem molding it, or rolling it out, and my impressions turned out great. I liked the fact that when the first one didn't work out, I just re-rolled it and did it again. The instructions aren't great, but a wonderful product in the end."

Second purchase = fail August 15, 2013
"I bought one of these in Feb 2011 for my first son. My best friend helped me get the impression (full disclosure - she is an art teacher) and it looks great. I ordered another in July 2013 for my second son expecting the same product, but it's a complete disaster. Based on other reviews I am guessing the clay changed. I pushed my baby's hand and foot into the clay so hard I felt like I might hurt him. No matter how hard I tried you couldn't see the impression. I tried it so many times that the clay began to dry so I finally just let it go. It is all cracked and looks horrible. Can't even hang it up. Total waste of money, and now they don't both have one. Posting a pic of the successful one and the failure."

August 09, 2013
"Received one of these when my daughter was born, and liked it so much that I bought one for when my son was born. A lot of the negative reviews seem to complain about the clay material. I think that it did require some kneading that was a little more aggressive than the instructions indicated, but if you keep stretching and kneading it until the material becomes smooth looking (instead of lumpy), you can get good impressions."

Very Disappointed July 23, 2013
"As others have noted, the "clay" is more of a marshmallow consistency and despite repeated attempts it was impossible to get a good impression. Even when we thought we captured his little hand and foot, the imprint would eventually "rise up" and the imprint would be barely noticeable. Not an end result worth hanging on the wall. Would have expected more for the price."

Deluxe Baby Keepsake Kit July 11, 2013
"This is the 3rd kit I've ordered from Red Envelope, and while the first two were a little difficult, the 3rd kit was impossible. The "clay" is more like marshmallow. We kneaded the dough forever in order to soften it enough to work with. We imprinted baby's hand and foot prints only to have the material rise too far and the prints to disappear. So we tried again. And again. Then we tried to add a few drops of water and ended up ruining the "clay" and throwing it away. We will try to find a different modeling material and try again. The finished product is a nice keepsake if you can deal with the frustration of both baby and mom!"

The material was more the consistency of bread dough and did not imprint well. We have ordered different molding kits with self drying clay to use or else it would be a complete waste of a frame. We are very disappointed in Red Envelope for not providing a higher quality molding kit to go with such a beautiful frame. We will be calling to complain!"

Poor Quality Clay June 11, 2013
"I read other negative reviews before purchasing, but I didn't have problems 3 years ago, when I purchased this to hold my first son's prints. They must have changed the clay/putty in the meantime. It's impossible to get/keep a print with this stuff. Another reviewer hit the nail on the head: it's like a marshmallow. As soon as we pull the hand/foot out of the clay, it starts reforming itself, undoing the print. Worthless. It's a shame, because the frame itself is nice. But since the real point of the frame is to hold prints, there's no way I could recommend that someone spend the ridiculous amount they're asking, for what's essentially a lemon."

Great gift! June 04, 2013
"I received one of these from my friend when she asked me to be the godmother of her baby. I loved it so much I bought one for my own mom when I had my first baby. Two things to look out for... 1) Make sure to kneed the foam very well before you imprint your baby's hand/foot. If not the imprint will puff out/fade out out before the foam dries. 2) The double-sided tape doesn't hold very well. You make need to use a stronger adhesive to ensure the foam stays in place once it is dry. Also, give yourself 2-3 days of putting it together and allowing it to dry if you are gifting. Take extra care with the instructions and you won't be disappointed. Great gift!"

Beautiful gift but white putty inconsistent May 26, 2013
"I have purchased this item several times and have always loved it, but this last time the white impression material was more difficult to use, and even though I followed the directions exactly the same way as always, it was lumpy and didn't hold the hand and foot impression the way it did for my other 2 kids, or for the 2 I got as gifts for friends. I was disappointed, because otherwise the frame, matting and everything else is GORGEOUS! It makes a fabulous gift and the custom nameplate is really high-quality and nice. Imprints didn't work well May 20, 2013
"The imprint material was very spongy and didn't work well. it was difficult to roll flat and the impression didn't last. It was almost like trying to leave a hand print in a marshmallow - it just bounced back. I didn't have any issues with the imprint material sticking as others have reported. I like the idea, however. The frame looks nice and it's super easy to assemble. I went to the craft store and bought some modeling clay & plaster of paris to try instead. For the cost I expected the hand & foot impressions to work better."

Clay doesn't work May 20, 2013
"I almost rated this a 2 because the frame that comes with it is really nice, but where 90% of this gift fails is with the clay imprint material it comes with. It simply does not work, I tried roughly 15 times to get imprints of both my sons feet and hands, and no matter how many times i rolled out the clay, no matter the thickness, no matter how HARD I pushed his little feet into it, the material would just slowly swell back up. Each time we made an imprint, easily within 5min the imprint was virtually gone or to the point where you couldn't tell what it was. It's like trying to make an imprint in a marshmallow. It's a great idea, and the clay is definitely mess-free, but whatever it's made out of is seems to have to much air in it? Basically I bought a really expensive picture frame, and went to a craft store and bought a real imprint kit to do the impressions. As I said, really nice frame, but the imprint clay is completely worthless. Cannot recommend anyone to buy this. A three frame picture frame and an imprint kit from a craft store runs cheaper then this kit, I'm sorry to say."

May 02, 2013
"We have purchased this item for all 4 of our children. There have been times where the "clay" has been hard to work with, and I believe for one child I may have purchased Crayola air-dry dough to use as the packaged stuff did not work. My only complaint, and this would be for other purchasers to know, is that over 9 years and 4 children, the frame thickness has changed, and most recently, the color changed. Our first two children ( 2004 and 2007) have matching frames. Our last two (2010 and 2013) have thicker frames, and the last one has a darker espresso. I love the wood look and color, but may have to paint them to match. I would have appreciated it if Red Envelope would have noted this in their description, as it seems others have had the same problem. If you plan to use this for all of your children and want to hang them together, you may want to purchase several at the same time. Otherwise, I am pleased with this purchase and look forward to doing imprints #4 with our #4!"

Not the greatest April 07, 2013
"When using the clay material do not use foil, the rolling pin, or the ruler included. I would recommend wax paper. Sandwich the clay in between 2 pieces of wax paper when rolling out the clay. It will prevent the rolling pin from sticking to the clay and it peels away from the wax paper with no sticking! Wait until the clay dries to trim the sides or the ruler provided will get stuck too. Nice idea, but not easy to work with the clay and a wiggly little one!"

Ehhh, there's better stuff out there March 30, 2013
"I wouldn't recommend this for the price. The concept is great, but the good used to capture the molds is too soft, therefore sticking to anything, including the wooden rolling pin, the foil you're supposed to roll it on, etc. Yeah you could wait longer and maybe it'll work better, but the molding stuff still sticks to everything. It's worse than silly putty, which would probably be easier to use."

Beautiful Keepsake February 05, 2013
"I got this as a gift and was thrilled because it was so pretty and you had the option of what color background you wanted. The clay is hard to work with but what's even harder is getting your baby to stay still long enough to get a nice clear picture. I was EXTREMELY disappointed when about 8 months later, the double sided tape stopped sticking and my little hands and feet feel. It took my mother and I about an hour to put this thing together until it looked perfect and when I saw they fell I was so upset but my husband reminded me we can just go out and get better double sided tape, it's a minor defect. Otherwise, it's simply gorgeous and I get tons of compliments on it."

Couldn't use, too sticky January 27, 2013
"I got this as a gift. I usually love Red Envelope products, but I was unable to use this. I'm not sure how others were able to use it. I followed all of the instructions, but the dough stuck to the roller, the foil, and to my daughter. After multiple tries, I threw it away and will use it as a frame only."

Too sticky! January 23, 2013
"The plaster was way too sticky! I could only get half the dough out of the bag because it stuck to it and stuck horribly to my hands while I was trying to get it out. There was Norway I was putting this on my baby's skin then trying to get it off! I got so frustrated that I threw away the dough and roller which got completely stuck to the dough."

Little tricky but not bad January 19, 2013
"After multiple tries we got a couple of tips that will help other folks... 1. Let the material dry out a bit while youre kneading it... dont be in a rush it takes like 20 mins of working with it before it is even usable. The material is really tacky so it will pretty much stick to anything regardless of how well behaved your baby is. 2. After you roll it out, blow on it a bit (1 min) so the surface dries out and wont stick to your baby's foot/hand. Hope that helps.. overall its quite nice and the frame's quality is pretty nice."

Good product January 16, 2013
"I have this keepsake for both of my children. It's a beautiful piece to hang on the wall. The only thing i didnt like is that there isn't enough molding material with the kit. The first one I did turned out well but the mold didn't extend far out enough to the sides so it looks silly and can't be fixed. The second one I did two years later I made sure to roll yhe mold out enough to reach all 4 sides of the frame but it was too thin because once it dried my sons hand and foot prints were completely cracked all over (because it was a thin layer) I had to go out and purchase a different kind of mold (about 20 additional dollars) so it could be redone without having the two previous problems. I also think it's a bit pricy but you are making a keepsake so it's worth the extra money (but not the 20$ I had to spend extra)"

Great Product!! December 17, 2012
"We bought this to make our daugher's imprints 6 years ago and then ordered another one when our son was born a couple of years later. This kit is amazing - the handprints were a little tough just because both babies kept wanting to squeeze the imprint material. It's a good idea to do the handprint while baby is sleeping. The footprint was easy. This has held up really well - 6 years later it still looks as good as the day it was done, and it's so fun to look back and see how tiny they were. I highly recommend this product!! It's definitely worth the effort it takes to get a good print. Some of the other reviewers have given some good tips for getting good hand and foot prints. The personlized nameplate is a really nice touch - we got one for our daughter's but didn't for our son's, and are sorry now that we didn't order one for him. The nice thing about it is that you decide whether or not you want to attach it, so if you're on the fence about it I would recommend getting it when you order and deciding later whether to use it."

Beautiful. Perfect Keepsake December 08, 2012
"We just finished this with my 6 mo old son. It turned out beautiful. The only down fall was the time that it took to get a good imprint. We followed the instructions exactly. It took a ton of patience to get a good imprint. So, relax and do it when you have quite a bit of time. We did the 2 imprints on different days. I highly recommend trying to get the imprint while the little one is in the deepest sleep. I am so happy with this product. I highly recommend."

Forever captured December 05, 2012
"I have purchased two of these sets, one for each of my children, at different times. The sets were consistent with quality and beauty. I will admit that sometimes it's kind of challenging to get your little ones' handprint but the foot is a snap. Just stand them on the counter with the clay under their foot and press down. EVERYONE who sees these frames in my house loves them! Now I'm buying one for a gift for my best friends' new baby."

Advice on how to get best results November 27, 2012
"1) Let the clay dry a little before rolling it out. 2) Use wax paper or parchment paper below and above when rolling it out. 3) When you get ready to press Jr.'s hand & foot in the clay, put a little bit of cornstarch on the clay and on the hand & foot. 4) When peeling the clay off the wax paper, put tension on the paper while on a flat table. Slowly slide it towards the edge and pull one part of the paper down towards the floor. As the clay gets to the edge, it will separate from the wax paper."

Favorite gift ever! November 27, 2012
"This was my favorite gift and I used it for all 3 of my kids. The quality is very nice and love the fact that you can change the mat color. My 7 year old still has this hanging above his bed and loves to compare how much he has grown. I waited until my kids were about 3-5 months old to do this. There is no way to get a newborn to hold their hand open. It is not the product's fault, it is just common sense! I also took the picture on the same day which was great because their unique facial features were more pronounced by this age. So wait a few months and this will be a treasure you will cherish."

Worked Great for Me November 25, 2012
"I did not have the problems that other reviewers had with the clay being too sticky at all. In fact, it was pretty easy to use. The only caveat is that the sticker that comes with the kit to stick the imprints on the matting refused to stick so our imprints kept falling off. I ended up super glueing them on. I would definitely recommend purchasing this product, it ended up a beautiful piece"

We fall under "epic failure" November 20, 2012

First it stuck to our hands, then it stuck to the rolling pin, then it stuck to our kids food, then we couldn't get it to imprint... Once we got something RESEMBLING our kids foot and hand we let it dry for 3 days and it STILL wasn't dry. I do NOT recommend this product AT ALL!!"

very sharp looking keepsake November 14, 2012
"The keepsake is very pretty and elegant looking. A very nice way to display foot/hand prints. I would have to agree with the other reviews though, that little wooden rolling pin is totally useless. Just chuck it in the garbage and save yourself a headache. I found that if I let it sit out for about 10 mins and then rolled it out with my chilled marble rolling pin it was fine. I bought 3 of them for gifts, so I got lots of practice. I should think a chilled glass bottle/jar would be the same effect as the marble, something cool and smooth. Of course, getting the baby to have his hand go flat was not easy either. I waited till he was sleeping, that seemed to work the best."

She loved it November 12, 2012
"I bought this for a friends baby shower. She loved it and it turned out just like the picture. I dont know how many times it took her to get it perfect but its so pretty hanging in her living room. The one complaint that I have is that the box is plain. So when I got it I had to print out a picture of what it was and tape it to the box. If I would have just given it to her alone in her house it wouldnt have been a big deal I could have just explained what it was. But since I gave it as part of a baby shower gift, it looked cheap since I had to tape a print out on the box. Thats why I gave it 4 instead of 5 stars!"

Great, But Not User Friendly November 08, 2012
"I have now used this for both of our children and love the final product. However, it is not user friendly and I find the instructions unhelpful in prepping the clay. We needed to press down the clay and let it sit for a while before trying to use it as it was sticking to everything. It ruined our "roller" as well so we had to find another item to use. We ended up using the aluminum foil on both sides of the material to flatten it appropriately and went from there. We do get the results we want, but I recommend a touch up on the instructions sheet to guide people a little better."

Heartfelt Gift November 08, 2012
"I first bought the Deluxe Baby Keepsake Kit 6 years ago while pregnant with my first child, also bought it for a good friend having her first child 3 months before me. I LOVE this kit so much that I have bought it as my baby shower gift for all of my best friends and just recently purchased one for my second child which is about to be born and a friend who is due 6 weeks after me. The reason I love this kit so much is because no matter where I searched I could only ever find a frame with a spot for a photo and ONE impression, how was I to decide between my child's foot or hand. I really appreciated that this kit had a spot for both impressions and a picture and came all together so it was easy to work with. I have read other reviews that complain about the "clay" for the impressions and I strongly urge them to try the plaster kind and then make a review....may take a time or two to get the impression correct but the material is forgiving and non-toxic and not messy for the parents or the newborn child. Hence the reason I gave it 5 stars and have purchased at least 8 of these kits in the last 6 years!! It is a heartfelt gift for any new parent and they will forever cherish the gave it to them and for the thoughtfulness of helping to capture the miracle of their newborn child! I recommend having it sitting out so within a few days of coming home from the hospital you remember to capture their tiny little feet and hands!"

Nice quality with one slight issue September 18, 2012
"This is the second time I've purchased this item over the past 5 years. The first frame set has held up well, so we decided to get another when our second child was born. In the process of getting our newborn daughter's footprint, I found the molding clay to be a bit stickier than I remember. It stuck to the little wooden rolling tool and basically rendered it useless. I ended up just flattening it out as best I could with my hands, which did work for the most part."

Complete Disappointment August 16, 2012
"Once you get to the point where you use the little wooden rolling pin, you may as well throw the directions away because you're on your own from that point. The 'casting' material completely sticks to the wood rolling pin regardless if you go fast or slow. It's almost as if you need to have some flour sprinkled on to keep the material from sticking. We ended up trying to use parchment paper between the white material and our own rolling pin(since the provided one was caked with the material and worthless from that point). The result was much better but there are still lines all thru the cast since parchment paper isn't perfectly flat. Use the product but don't get your hopes up."

So wonderful yet so difficult! August 05, 2012
"I have a love/hate relationship with this product. Now that it's completed I love that it looks like such a professional and wonderful keepsake. The process for completing, however, was far more difficult than expected. The plaster material is extremely sticky. The kit comes with a wooden roller and the instructions say to use it, but the material sticks to the wood and absolutely will not come off. I finally put the material between two sheets of parchment paper and rolled on top of that to make a smooth surface for the print. Then my baby's hand and foot stuck to the material so the print was not clean. It took an hour and numerous tries to get this perfect, which was tedious. However, now that it is perfect I absolutely love the end product. So definitely recommend the kit to anyone with patience who is willing to spend a bit of time."

Great Choice! July 23, 2012
"I have purchased this keepsake several times now, as many of my friends are having babies. I have two of these keepsakes on the wall that we did for our babies and love looking at them as I walk past that wall numerous times a day. They were easy to create-- though DEFINITELY do the casting when the baby is asleep, otherwise their fingers and toes instinctively dig down into the puddy and can distort the print, making it take longer to get a good one. The name plate is a nice added touch and can explain why your baby gift arrived AFTER the baby was born instead of before, if you tend to have that timing with regards to sending a gift. The correct (and final) name spelling and date of birth info on the birth announcements are a handy way to be sure you have the data correct! The name plate can easily get missed within the packaging, so be sure to mention it in the gift note so they know to look for it before they throw out the packaging. Truly a great gift, and one that is timeless."

Best Keepsake & Mother's Day Present Ever May 17, 2012
"My wife always wanted my sons handprint and footprint. This is the best of both worlds and you can take a picture of your son/daughter the day you make the impressions. Then years from now you can look at the frame and think how wonderful they were when they couldn't talk back and wanted nothing more than your love and affection. This is the best present I could possibly think of giving."

Too sticky? Rub olive oil on baby's hand & foot May 15, 2012
"When I first attempted (several times!) to make an imprint of my baby's foot, it kept sticking into the molding product and by the time I would pry it off his foot, the footprint was completely messed up. I even tried baby powder which did not help at all. Thank goodness I went back to this site and read the other reviews which said to rub a little olive oil or cooking spray all over their hand & foot before making the imprint. I did this and .... VOILA...it created a perfect impression of his hand and foot that did not stick at all. Please note that if you use the oil trick I've mentioned it means you will only have 1 attempt at making the impression so "make it count!" After trying this trick, I would definitely recommend this product to others. Too bad they didn't include this suggestion in the product's instructions. I can see how it would really frustrate others who didn't know to do this."

Good for busy people April 30, 2012
"This is a nice frame and the kit is all together. I wouldn't say that the mold was really easy to use, but it was easy enough. You could buy the same frame and keepsake clay other places and pay 1/2 as much. That being said, it is a nice idea, I made one for each of the grandmas and my daughter's birth mom. Quality Changed March 14, 2012
"Purchased this four years ago for my 1st son and loved it! Ordered same Espresso frame now for son #2, and found the quality totally different. Original frame was dark espresso grained wood with heavy gloss and textured matting. Gorgeous and classy! Current order was wood appearing fake, flat matte finish, and picture matting was flat, untextured, and a much lighter shade. I wanted to hang them both next to each other, but can't do so as it becomes obvious that the quality is totally different. I used to give this as a gift to my customers, feeling it was a wonderful high quality gift to give. Not so anymore. Darn!"

Exactly as described February 16, 2012
"I bought this as a Valentine's/birthday gift for my husband, since we had our first child on Christmas. Some of the reviews made me a bit nervous that it would be difficult to use, but if you have ever used play-doh or made cookies, it shouldn't be a problem. Getting a few-week old baby to cooperate was harder. :) If you don't get a good impression the first (or second) time, it is very easy to re-roll and start over. The end result was very professional looking, and my husband was thrilled. There was extra impression material, and I used it to make another impression to use as an ornament. 4 stars because it is a bit expensive."

I wish this was better quality February 07, 2012
"I LOVE the idea, and the frame itself is beautiful, but the impression material is worse than awful. I tried to make my newborns foot and hand prints but the stuff sticks to everything and it was impossible to get anything good from it. I did contact the company with my problems and they were very helpful and sent me new impression material but that stuff was even worse than the first batch. I made the PERFECT hand prints (which are nearly impossible to make) and her hand wouldn't come out- it stuck right in. The only way to get it out was to peel the stuff away. I WAS able to slightly salvage it and make a sub-par print by refrigerating the rolled out material between waxed paper for about 20-30 min... It helped with the sticky but I was just so fed up at this point I almost gave up. I so wish this was better quality. (I'm uploading a photo that I know is not in focus, but you get the idea.)"

I was stressed about getting the impressions right but if you follow the directions they really aren't hard (the hardest part was just getting the baby's hand/foot to make a good impression...but if you don't like it the first time you can re-roll and do it again). Great Keepsake! January 16, 2012
"Love this keepsake set! It is absolutely beautiful! It's a little tough to roll out the clay. I was able to press it lightly in my hands to smooth it out. I didn't make them into a square shape, like they recommended, instead just left them in a oval. I think it came out beautifully and I get a lot of compliments on it. Another helpful hint would be to do the imprints sooner than later. The younger they are the easier it is to find a time when they are completely asleep to do this."

Love it! Here are some tips: December 21, 2011
"I just wrapped this to give my husband for Christmas, and I couldn't be happier with it. From my experience (some used based on other posts), here are some tips to consider: 1) Spend the extra few bucks to get the engraved plaque to really the keepsake special; 2) Use a large glass to roll out the mold (which is very similar to Crayola's Model Magic...and NOT sticky) to get an even surface; 3) Prepare both molds at the same time since it will surely take more than one try to get a good handprint and it's nice to have the second one ready to go...if you mess up, just re-roll them; 4) I captured her handprint while she was calmly eating, but it would have been easier to have a second person help unclench her fingers; 5) Make sure the mold is rolled thin enough to fit under the fame's glass; 6) After you use the ruler provided to remove the excess mold, you'll have enough extra to make a handprint Christmas ornament; 7) Wait the full 48-hour drying time to mount the prints inside the frame so the double-sided tape adheres properly."

could be better December 16, 2011
"I received this as a baby gift from a friend and thought it was great. I have twin boys so I was going to do both of there feet. Well the material is way to sticky. I followed the directions. The dough stuck to the rolling pin, So i didn't use it after that. Then when I would lift his foot some would remain on his foot, which would ruin the impression. Then I tried there hands...well i eventually sprayed some Pam on the boys hands and then made the print. But once you use Pam you have one shot at the impression. Mine aren't great but I have a great story about trying to do it and keepsake. Just wish the dough material would be better. The frame is gorgeous."

Nice keepsake December 15, 2011
"We'd been looking for a keepsake for our son's hand/footprints & this works perfectly! Thanks to other reviewers comments, I wiped my sons' foot/hand with olive oil prior to imprinting into the impression material. Perfect! The name plate makes the frame extra special. The only thing that I'd wish I'd known was to roll the impression material a tad bit thinner...mine was rolled to approx. 1/2" and it's a little thick for the frame, but works fine. Overall, I would highly recommend to a friend. Fun, easy & a nice keepsake!"

Too Sticky December 06, 2011
"We bought this when my now 5 year old was born. At the time it worked 'okay'....the images have faded over time unfortunately. With the one we just bought 1 month ago - the 'plaster' is entirely too sticky. Terrible product. Don't try to use the wooden dowel to smooth it out because it sticks to it. We had to use one of my sons plastic markers (which worked great). The product stuck all over my baby's hand - I had to use a light dusting of powder on his hand and foot to get an imprint. Wouldn't recommend this unless there are some changes to the plaster product."

"The formula for this product has definitely changed. Having used this product a few years ago with great results, this time around was not so. As other users have indicated, the (white stuff) was too sticky. Using parchment with a big roller pin helped, but don't waste your time with the little piece of wood that comes with the kit. It is also disappointing that, because it is so sticky, the prints from the baby are also not of the highest quality, as the substance sticks to their hands as you pull them away. I loved this product 3 years ago, but not so much anymore - can't recommend it any longer."

Impression material too sticky November 08, 2011
"Bought this for my baby to match the one we made with her sister 5 years ago. Unfortunately, the frame color (and style) is slightly different so they don't really match as well as I'd like. Guess I can just hang them up on separate walls and it will be fine. My bigger issue is with the impression material... they musy have changed the "formula" for it because it kept sticking to my baby's hands and feet this time. In the end, I used a little olive oil on her skin and that seemed to help. Also, the impression material stuck to the tinfoil and messed up the prints a few times before I learned to let it "dry" a few minutes before loosening. I would still recommend this product to a friend because it looks so nice when it's done BUT I would definitely share these tips! In fact, I think the company should put some usage tips together so customers would have an easier time working with the impressions."

Great keepsake November 08, 2011
"I bought this for our first child several years ago and absolutely loved it. I am not a crafty person but this is very easy to use and looks great! There was no question that I needed to get this for our second child too. I love the background color options, personalized name plate and photo slot. You can't go wrong with this keepsake!"

Much better than 'plaster of paris' type kits November 02, 2011
"It comes with everything you need, including a rolling pin, straight edge/ruler, double stick tape, and two packages of modeling clay stuff. It’s soft and spongy, and you can squish it back together and try again if you like. It’s super easy to use, and dries within a day or two."

baby keepsake October 18, 2011
"I have purchased 2 so far for my grandchildren. They are beautiful and are treasured by my son and his wife. I am preparing to purchase a third for my next grandchild next month. The only problem is the changing of frame colors. I wish that they were consistent and continued but they do look great on the wall and it truly is a treasured keepsake."

great idea! October 14, 2011
"Love everything about this little project. The only reason w gave it a 4star rating is the wooden "rolling pin." The moulding material sticks to it all over. We ended up pressing it flat with our hands. Otherwise a great idea for this simple and efficient, nice quality kit. Planning on giftibg one to my cousin."

Sweet & Lasting Keepsake October 07, 2011
"I love this beautiful keepsake. I think it turned out wonderfully. It will be really neat for my son to see his tiny imprints when he gets older. I've done ink prints and found those very challenging and messy. I had to get my husband to help with those. In comparison this kit was a breeze and there was no mess! In fact, I was able to do it on my own. I used a marble rolling pin to roll the impression material out. It worked very well with no sticking. I'm sure a smooth glass would work just as well. Also, there was enough impression material left over for me to make an extra foot impression. I put the remaining last bit in a airtight plastic bag and it's still soft two weeks later. All the mat colors were pretty. The tan mat matches our decor best. I added a photo since I didn't see any others with it included."

Nice but inconsistency over the yrs October 03, 2011
"I purchased one 2yrs ago for my older daughter and another one last month. Although the quality is good each time, there are some inconsistency: (1) the older one is glossy and the new one is not (2) The mohogany shades are different (3) The impression material is more moist with the new one (i.e. it sticks to the rolling pin and takes longer to dry). Nonetheless I really like the idea and my older daughter is pretty fascinated seeing how small she used to be"

Best Keepsake Ever September 13, 2011
"I bought this keepsake for my twins (one boy, one girl) and it is the best keepsake ever. The material is easy to use, and if you mess up you can just roll it back out again. Don't bother cutting it into the square shape until you get the print you like. If the material is really gooey and sticks to your hands and you can't work with it, then you need to send it back (this happened once when I ordered the keepsake ornament that uses the same material). The babies are almost 2 now, and it brings me so much joy to look back at these keepsakes. They look professionally done!"

Great Keepsake! August 29, 2011
"I bought this for our first baby as I loved the idea of no baking or painting the impression material. The one problem I had was the rolling pin included... it sticks to the material and will not come off! I reformed and used a glass cup to roll out the material, did the imprint, and then used the ruler (included) to cut straight sides to make the rectangle. All in all it turned out great and looks totally professional. Pay the extra $5 and get the plate engraved."

"I received this frame as a gift when my son was born 2 1/2 years ago. I like it so much, I decided to just order a 2nd after the birth of my daughter. Unfortunately it's no longer the same color! They're close, but definitely not the same. Since I was planning on hanging them one above the other, I am disappointed about that. BUT if this will be the first one you order, then go for it. It's a very good quality frame. If you ever plan on buying another one, just go ahead and do it now before the company changes the color on you!"

Touching keepsake August 12, 2011
"We received this as a gift when our first baby was born. It was a little tough finding the time to do both the hands and feet impressions (and even more difficult to do them without wrecking the flat surface of the modeling compound and the rectangular shape we'd made), and then even more time to figure out which picture to put in between them. Once we did though? Happy tears. Of all the baby gifts we received, this was my absolute favorite. Between the impressions, the photo, and the engraved plaque, it is the sweetest, nicest thing to have. It was worth the extra effort for the lifetime of memories it will spark. My heart still wells up two years later every time I see it on the wall. We're buying another one for ourselves now that we've had our second baby. I love that they give you color options for the mat, and beyond just pink and blue. They say to do an impression of one foot and one hand, but because you decide what size rectangle to make with the clay, there's room for both feet and both hands, and I love that. My only criticism is that the fixative used to attach the molds hasn't held as well as I would like--one side is leaning away from the backing. But that's not a big deal. Love it."

Not Happy August 04, 2011
"I was disappointed when I received the deluxe baby keepsake kit. The monogrammed plaque came separate in the bottom of the box and I had to add it to the frame and ensure it was centered. There also wasn't a picture of the keepsake included in the box, so my friend got it and thought it was just a frame. She didn't realize that it is a keepsake for hand and foot print. The kit is a lot of work especially for a new mom. I'm so disppointed in the product and will not be buying again."

Not easy August 01, 2011
"This is a great product, but actually getting the hand/foot prints was really difficult. We followed the directions, but it was a mess. The "rolling pin" they provided stuck to the clay the second they came they contact with each other. I'd recommend not using the rolling pin at all. So without the rolling pin, we basically just rolled it into whatever shape we could get it into with our hands (round-ish?). So they're not those nice squares. Oh well, we were still able to capture our baby's hand and foot prints. And definitely do this while the baby is asleep - made it so easy."

would give 4 stars but missing nameplate July 24, 2011
"I was really excited to get this for my daughter's room, but was confused when I checked out and there wasn't a way to enter the information I wanted engraved on the nameplate. I just assumed that when I got it I'd have to take it somewhere to be engraved. well, to my surprise and disappointment, it arrived without a nameplate at all. I'm not sure what I did wrong or how I should have gone about indicating that I wanted the engraved nameplate when I ordered it but it was not obvious to me. now I'm super bummed because it's such an adorable keepsake and would have been even more special with my baby's name and birth info on it :( maybe order this one by phone rather than online if you want to be sure to get the engraved name plate! it really is a neat keepsake item and looks great in the nursery! (I used some extra fabric from the crib bedding to recover the mat so it matches perfectly.) I really do love it! even without the name plate."

Pretty but difficult to use July 19, 2011
"I got this kit to make a Father's Day gift for my husband - we had our baby shortly before then. Overall, I am happy with this kit/frame and find the finished product very attractive. My only complaint is that the included wooden roller is worse than useless - it stuck to the included clay more than anything else did! I ended up using a smooth-sided water glass to roll out the clay, and that worked *much* better - I don't know why they even include that useless wooden roller! It just caused frustration until I found a more suitable roller. One piece of advice if you get this product - it is really difficult to get a newborn to lay his hand flat and not either clench it or pull it back when you press it into the clay. Wait until baby is sleepy, make sure you have someone (or two!) to help you, and even then, expect to do several attempts before you get a good hand impression. (When I think back on it, I realize that a video of my mom and I trying to get the hand impression would also have been a great gift for my husband - it was so funny!) Luckily it's easy enough to re-roll the clay-like material used for the impression, and that's what you'll end up doing between every attempt!"

Very disappointed July 06, 2011
"I was so excited to get this for my husband for his first father's day, but I'm disappointed in the product. First of all, no matter how many times I tried, I found it difficult to get great prints from my four month old. She was great, and held still, but it was still difficult to press down enough without hurting her. More disappointing is the fact that the tape is not nearly strong enough to hold the prints up, and they fall down within about an hour of hanging up the frame. I wish I could get my money back!"

Fun and easy July 04, 2011
"I bought this for my great niece's first child, and took it over with some dinner one night. She started looking through the package on how to get the hand and foot imprints, so we could try when he was in between feedings and asleep. They had his inked foot print from birth, but no handprint as the hospital does not do this anymore. After some organizing and a few mistakes on our part, we were able to get a great hand and footprint, along with a lot of laughs in the process with the "redos". They commented they were glad we had done it while I was still there, otherwise they may not have gotten to it with so much else going on. So would recommend reading the instructions and offering to help. I did opt to engrave the optional plate and they loved it."

not 100% satisfied June 29, 2011
"I bought this frame for Father's day this year and decided to put the hands of both my sons in the frame. It's a beautiful frame, but with flaws. When it arrived, I noticed there was some minor bubbling in the wood. The hand prints were easy to do, and the material remains very pliable for multiple retries. I had to use my own metal roller because the material was completely sticking to the wood rolling pin that comes with. I was thrilled to give this to my husband. He loved it and put it in his office. I'm sad to see that every 3-4 days, the hand prints fall off, and I have to open up the frame to put them back up. The double sided tape is not very strong so I will have to take some gorilla glue or E2000 to it. Cute frame, but they could have invested in better 2 sided tape for the price."

Great keepsake June 08, 2011
"We purchased this item for our son when was a baby four years ago. When our daughter was born in April we knew we needed to purchase one for her as well. I love looking at their hand and foot prints hanging on the wall in their bedrooms. My husband plans on giving them to our kids when they are all grown up. One word of advice, the kit comes with a huge amount of the molding material so you need to make sure it is not too thick when you roll it out. We had to redo our daughter's footprint because it was squished down when he put it into the frame. Luckily it had not harden up too much so we were able to redo it with no problem."

"This baby gift for a colleague was very well received. The proud parents were so excited to use the kit and make their baby's prints. My only suggestion is that it would be nice to have the box or something inside the box indicate what the gift is. very unhappy customer April 30, 2011
"I bought this for my wife because she is so exited to document the growing up of our first baby, the reason the white frame option drew me in is because it was featured with the light blue accent inside that would have perfectly matched the nursery I had just made and when I received the package it was just plain white which is not what I wanted. Not to mention a very large factor of why I decided to make the purchase in the first place was the engraved personalized tag which was advertised with it did not come with the package and gave no mention during the purchase process online. I have used this site to buy items a few times before and intended to make many more in the future but after this experience I doubt that to still be true."

March 23, 2011
"My daughter was born almost five years ago and we purchased this keepsake kit when she was an infant. We hung it on the wall in our first house and our second house, before it go knocked off the wall and the frame broke. Since the dimensions are not standard and it is a shadow box type of frame, no standard frames were available in the stores and the cost of custom framing was very expensive. So, we thought we could just buy a new kit and only use the frame. NOPE!!! The frame in the new keepsake kit is much smaller than the previous version. So, now we begin the process of trying to find out how to get the clay hand and footprints off the old matting without ruining it. Even thought we only have 1 child, it made me think - If you plan to have more than 1 child buy as many kits as children you plan to have, or the frames on the walls will not match. VERY DISAPPOINTED!!!!"

great frame! March 22, 2011
"Love the quality of the frame, it came well packaged! I love the variety of colors you can have as the background. The only bad part of this kit is the clay. It wouldn't roll out with the rolling pin so we used tin foil. And it was a little difficult to get a good imprint. Would recommend, but be wary that this is somewhat of a difficult project to ensemble!"

Quality product March 22, 2011
"Makes the perfect baby shower gift. Don't know the gender of this baby, so the option of different colored mats is perfect. Have purchased others as gifts so I knew the quality was excellent and imprinting simple."

Long way from EASY. March 01, 2011
"While I am satisfied with the end result, and liked that the material didn't actually get on the baby, it was FAR from easy. First off, the wooden dowel was useless because the impression "foam" stuck to it. The material also stuck to the wax paper we were told to place it on to make it easier, our hands and fingers, but the worst part was that it kept sticking to the babies hands and feet as well and we had to redo the impression multiple times. The project took hours to complete with all the sticking."

Great product, easy to use! February 21, 2011
"This was given to us as a gift, and we absolutely love it! It was easy to redo the hand(s)/feet as well. The wooden roller was pretty much useless though as it stuck to the clay and wouldn't roll it as intended. We used our own non-wooden rolling pin to remedy that problem! Otherwise it was fun to assemble!"

Just what I was looking for!!! February 19, 2011
"I wanted the hand and feet impressions with a photo of my baby for the grandmothers. This is exactly what I was looking for!!! All other kits were either the hand or a foot impression, but not both or only the ink impressions. I loved the quality of this product and the project of putting it all together!"

"It's very beautiful. However, it's a bit on the expensive side, although it's worth the money."

best of its kind February 09, 2011
"I really love this frame and the material used to make the impressions. If you mess up, you can re-do it again and again until you get a print you like. You don't have to mix anything or add water. The rolling pin didn't work for me, the stuff was too sticky. I was able to get a smooth surface anyways with other things around the house. I also love the choice of matting. I used the tan for my son and pink for my daughter. My only complaint is that the frame is a different color than the one I ordered 2 years ago from here. Its much more reddish wood where as the previous one was more espresso colored wood."

"This is the 2nd deluxe baby keepsake kit we have bought - the 1st one 2 1/2 years ago for our first daughter and the 2nd just recently for our second daughter. I personalized each with their full name and birth date and hung them with a decorative ribbon in their room. Very pleased with the quality and look!"
